Blooming Grove Independent School District is proud to announce the hiring of Coach Kevin Sherrill as our new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.

Coach Sherrill comes to Blooming Grove from Vernon ISD, where he is currently in his fifth year as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. Over his 11 years as a head coach, Coach Sherrill has built a reputation for leading successful program rebuilds, establishing a culture of accountability, and developing competitive athletic programs across all sports, not just football.

Under his leadership, Vernon ISD experienced a significant cultural shift and competitive success district-wide. Highlights from his tenure include:

• Football Program Success

  • 10–3 record (2025), 9–4 record (2024)

  • 2024 & 2025 Bi-District and Area Champions

  • 2024 & 2025 Regional Finalists

  • First winning season since 2014 (2022)

• Championships Across Athletics

  • Boys’ Track: State Runners-Up (2023); 4x400 State Champions (2023)

  • Tennis: Team State Champions (2023)

  • Girls’ Powerlifting: Regional Champions (2025); 4th place at State

  • Girls’ Basketball: 51 wins over the past three years

  • Boys’ Basketball: First playoff wins in 10 years

Coach Sherrill has also served as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Sonora ISD and Ralls ISD, where he led teams to district championships and earned multiple Coach of the Year honors, including District Coach of the Year and Dave Campbell’s Region Coach of the Year.

Beyond the field, Coach Sherrill is deeply rooted in faith and family. He and his wife of 22 years, Kassidy, an accomplished science teacher, have two children who have grown up in athletics and academics. His leadership philosophy centers on developing young people, building strong programs, and creating environments where expectations are high and success is shared.

We are confident that Coach Sherrill’s proven leadership, experience, and vision will have a lasting impact on our students, staff, and community. Coach Sherrill will begin his transition soon and will hit the ground running as he starts preparing our young men and women for the future.
