BLOOMING GROVE HIGH SCHOOL

BLOOMING GROVE HIGH SCHOOL

VISION STATEMENT

In order for Blooming Grove High School to become an exemplary campus, there must be clarity in:

1) the goals that must be accomplished

2) the characteristics concomitant with the school we wish to become

3) the contributions that must be made by the various stakeholders

in order to transform our ideals into reality.

The following vision statement is intended to provide the standards that Blooming Grove High School should strive to achieve and maintain.

I. Curriculum

An exemplary campus provides students with the requisite skills needed in order to successfully advance from one grade level to the next, while equipping them with the tools that will allow them to master state mandated tests. In addition, a variety of electives and co-curricular activities are offered which ensure the formation of a well-rounded individual that will graduate with 21st century skills that will allow them to be work force or college ready. The school articulates the intended outcomes it seeks for all of its learners, and purposely monitors each student’s attainment of those outcomes through a variety of indicators. In such a school, the curriculum:

Stimulates active engagement on the part of students

Recognizes and provides for individual differences and interests

Integrates technology as a means to achieve particular curricular outcomes

Addresses mastery of academic content while allowing for the integration of essential life skills

Is aligned both vertically and horizontally throughout the district in all subject matter

Reflects the district’s support of innovation and commitment to continuous improvement

II. Attention to Individual Students

An exemplary school recognizes the importance of each individual student. All employees make a concerted effort to communicate and demonstrate their concern for each student. As a result, each student feels as if they are a valued member of the school community. In an exemplary school:

Attention is paid to facilitating each student’s transition to and through high school.

Each student is provided the information, assistance, and support that enables him/her to develop appropriate educational and career goals.

The behavior, academic progress, and emotional well-being of each student are continually monitored, and appropriate services are initiated as needed.

III. PERSONNEL

An exemplary school operates on the premise that a school can only be as good as the personnel that it employs. Therefore, the Board and Administration are committed to recruiting and retaining individuals with exceptional expertise in their respective fields. In such a school:

All staff members demonstrate their support of and commitment to the school’s vision and values.

All staff members have high expectations for student success and work individually and collaboratively to create conditions that promote student success.

All staff members model the importance of lifelong learning through their commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning that occurs from collaborating with other staff members.

IV. STUDENTS

In the final analysis, the effectiveness of any school is assessed on the basis of the conduct, character, and achievement of its students. In an exemplary school, students:

Accept responsibility for their learning, decisions, and actions.

Develop the skills to become more self-directed learners as they make the transition freshman to senior year.

Become actively engaged in and give their best effort to academic and co-curricular pursuits.

Contribute to school and community service.

Conduct themselves in a way that contributes to a safe and orderly atmosphere that ensures the rights of others.

Are considerate of others- teachers, staff, fellow students, visitors, etc.

V. CLIMATE

An exemplary school provides a warm, inviting climate that enables students to enjoy their high school experience and results in a shared sense of pride in the school. In such a school:

There is a commitment to provide an emotionally and physically safe, supportive environment

There is an ongoing effort to providing a school that is free of alcohol, other drugs, and violence.

There are opportunities for high levels of participation in the curricular and co-curricular programs.

All individuals are treated with respect and consideration.

Relationships are characterized by caring and cooperation.

There is recognition and celebration of individual effort and achievement.

There is open communication between students, staff, administrators, and the school board.

Well-maintained physical facilities meet the needs of students and the community and reflect pride in the school.

VI. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

An exemplary school recognizes the importance of establishing effective partnerships with the larger community – parents, residents, businesses, government agencies, etc. It strives to develop the community’s allegiance to and ownership in the school. In such a school:

The community demonstrates it support for the vision and values of the school

The community participates in the life of the school by attending programs, volunteering service, and assisting in the processes that have been designed to enhance various aspects of the school.

The community calls upon the school to establish effective two-way communication that both provides information and seeks feedback.

The community has ready access to the school’s resources and facilities.

Parents play an active role in the education of their children, monitor their children’s academic performance, and work with teachers to emphasize the importance of education.
