Message from the Principal
Welcome to Blooming Grove Elementary and the 2007/2008 school year. Once again our campus has received the RECOGNIZED rating from the Texas Education Agency for the fifth year in a row. This was a great accomplishment for our students, staff and community. In fact, we almost reached exemplary status and just barely missed it by 3 students! If we could have gotten 1 more student to pass the math assessment and 2 more to pass the reading test, we would have been an EXEMPLARY campus! This fact just makes us even more determined to reach that level this year. If we do reach that level, or even if we do not, you can rest assured that your children are receiving a top notch education at our school.
We do have a few new additions to our staff this year. Mrs. Kimberly Nunn is teaching first grade, replacing Mrs. McDougald who transferred to the Junior High this year. Mrs. Nunn taught in Corsicana last year and is a welcome addition to the primary wing. Mrs. Shawn Hurley is a new aide in our accelerated instruction program, replacing Ms. Brooke Richards who is now a Blooming Grove High School math teacher and cheerleader sponsor. We really hated to see both Mrs. McDougald and Ms. Richards go to the other campuses, but Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Bell, the principals at the high school and junior high really wanted them for their campuses. We also lost Mrs. Almuete to Corsicana ISD and Mrs. Price retired this summer. We will miss all four of these ladies and wish Mrs. Price a very happy retirement. She served our school and community for 27 years.
Our science curriculum and instruction really received a boost last year as several of our teachers attended the Region 12 science collaborative training. All of our staff excelled in the collaborative, but several received special recognition. Mrs. Shari Harris was selected the Region 12 Science Collaborative Teacher of the Year award and Mrs. Pam Baldree received a special commendation for work on a science equipment grant for our campus. Mrs. Lou Ann Armstrong was also commended for curriculum materials that she wrote for the digital microscopes that the Regional Service Center selected for publication. In addition to the individual commendations, they have been invited to present workshops for the entire state at both the Texas Association of School Administrators conference and at N.A.S.A later this spring. Congratulations to these teachers for these awards.
There are many activities planned for this year, one in particular is for our fourth graders. The fourth grade will be participating in wetlands study and development for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Natural Resources Commision. They will participate in setting up a "wetlands" on the 77 Ranch just north of the school on FM 55. This is Gary and Sue Price’s ranch that received special recognition from TPWD this past spring. Our school and a school in Dallas were the only two schools chosen to assist these state agencies with this endeavor. Our students will sample the water, make observations of wildlife present, and identify aquatic plant and animal life present. This is a great honor for our school and a wonderful learning opportunity for our fourth graders
Once again, welcome to the 2007/2008 school year at BGES. Do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions or concerns.
